WEST HAVEN, Conn. — The University of New Haven has entered into new partnership agreements with four companies spanning medical technology, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies, expanding opportunities for students and faculty to work directly with industry.
The university announced Master Partnership Agreements with Sailion, Medtronic, Sheffield Pharmaceuticals and ARBURG as part of an effort to broaden industry collaboration through its Elevation Center.
The agreements are designed to connect the companies with university faculty, students and research resources while creating opportunities for applied research, internships, workforce training and industry-sponsored projects.
Paul Lavoie, vice president of corporate partnerships, innovation and executive director of the Elevation Center, said the partnerships are intended to provide companies with access to expertise across multiple areas of the university.
“While each of these partnerships is unique, they all share a common goal: connecting companies with the talent, expertise, innovation, and resources they need to succeed,” Lavoie said.
The Elevation Center serves as a central point of contact for companies seeking to work with the university. Depending on a company’s needs, potential collaborations can involve engineering, chemistry, artificial intelligence, marketing, supply-chain management, business strategy and workforce development.
The university said the new agreements could lead to a range of projects, including applied research, internships, technology adoption initiatives, supply-chain consulting and business strategy projects, as well as opportunities for students to work directly on industry challenges.
The partnerships bring together companies from several sectors that are important to the region’s economy. Medtronic is a major medical technology company, while Sheffield Pharmaceuticals operates in the pharmaceutical sector. ARBURG is a manufacturer of injection-molding and additive-manufacturing equipment, and Sailion is a technology-focused company.
University officials said the partnerships are intended to give students opportunities to gain practical experience while helping companies address workforce and innovation needs.
The initiative comes as universities and employers increasingly seek closer connections between academic programs and the skills required in a rapidly changing economy. For students, industry projects can provide exposure to real-world problems and potential career pathways. For companies, the university partnership provides access to research capabilities and a pipeline of emerging talent.
The University of New Haven was founded in 1920 and offers more than 150 undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition to its main campus in West Haven, the university operates campuses in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Tuscany, Italy.
Through the Elevation Center, the university said it plans to continue developing partnerships that connect its academic and research capabilities with companies seeking talent, innovation and workforce solutions.
